About Our Philanthropy:
More than 250 million children of primary school age lack basic reading, writing and math skills, and up to 75% of children in more deprived regions of poor countries can’t read a single word even after several years in school. This is unacceptable, but it’s something we can fix.
If all students in low-income countries left school with basic reading skills, 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty – a 12% cut in world poverty. We have a responsibility to provide every child, regardless of his or her circumstances, with access to a quality education. Here’s why:
Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world. It reduces poverty, helps prevent disease and empowers the next generation.
When children are educated, they are armed with the courage and self-confidence to better themselves, their families, their communities, and ultimately the next generation.
With education, children learn how to prevent illness and improve overall health, build and maintain infrastructure, manage personal and professional relationships, understand and advocate for basic rights, and secure a livelihood.
And these tools help children pull their families and communities out of the cycle of poverty.
Pencils of Promise is an incredible organization that is delivering long-term, sustainable education for communities through a holistic, community-driven approach.
Pencils of Promise has built nearly 500 schools in Ghana, Guatemala and Laos since 2009. They are changing what a learning experience can be for a child anywhere in the world, and we’d like to help them.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 to educate 1,500 students for a year in partnership with Pencils of Promise. Please join our team and help us educate and empower a generation!
